Sabrina Bernasconi and I recorded at Chuck Reed’s personal studio last night with Jose Alcantar and Sejo Navajas behind the board. Chuck is an A&R @ Interscope Records and it was a late-night, all-you-can-play experience with his top-notch and rare equipment. The result is an earthy, feel-good moment in our lives with Sabrina’s beautiful voice over me on an assortment of instruments (guitar, bass, keys and kick drum). I will post “Life” as soon as it finds a home. Enjoy these photos and recording of “SA” featuring Sabrina on vocals and acoustic guitar and yours truly on pedal steel, electric guitar & tap dance click-clack.

Angeleno Film Fest Winner!

I played guitar in a production called “Guitar Party Nightmare” and it won “Best Comedy” in the 2010 Angeleno Short Film Festival yesterday! Congrats to the cast from Upright Citizens Brigade and the crew involved. I’ve never eaten so many ho-ho’s in my whole life than I did that day…

For the past several years, I’ve had the pleasure of making it to NYC for the summer to play a show. It’s a hot sticky mess but I love it. This year, I’m swamped & I probably won’t make it out, so Greg Wurth (Steve Vai’s engineer & producer on his latest “Where The Wild Things Are” Vinyl release) and I recorded what it feels like to breathe in hot air around 8 PM in the city. Point a hairdryer at your face and breathe in to see what I mean. Lots of love NYC.

This month marks my fifth year of living in Los Angeles. In some ways, it feels like a few decades of hard-work complete with it’s excitements and letdowns, discoveries and daunting but new opportunities. I get to make music in this community and I wouldn’t trade being here for any other experience. Unless we’re talkin’ about this guy’s.

Playing with Jane and David of The Black Heartthrobs is satisfying for many reasons:

They’re of the rare breed of musicians who can throw a Hefty™ bag filled with vegetable soup out of a four-story building onto the sidewalk and have it sound musical, they have an amazing studio filled with electronic candy & they frequently break into Rush songs (below). We’re playing Thursday at The ArtWalk in Downtown LA and again in Anaheim next week. Check us out, shorty.

*Mia Sable CD Release Party (Chamberlain Hotel, Apple Store)

I’m excited about Mia Sable’s upcoming album and CD release party for “Light.” The sessions were produced by Jim Wirt (Fionna Apple, early Incubus, Something Corporate etc.) at 4th Street Recording along with Mia, who got final say, and it worked. The result is a fresh album that doesn’t try to ride the rail until the next trend or bring a temporary onslaught of depression. It’s honest in it’s musical vocabulary and there are moments that are better heard with the windows down.

About Mia: A post-melodramatic, straight-to-the-point musical seamstress, she reads and interprets people almost instantly. We have been performing together for a few years and not once has she entertained the offer of someone else doing the business end of things. Mia brings high-production value to her shows, band, bookings, finances, web presence, video content, and music.

We have a series of performances coming up, including a performance at The Apple Store this Saturday, August 1, a CD Release Party @ The Chaimberlain Hotel (invite only) and a few other places where your feet won’t stick to the ground while listening. Check us out and pick up a one of these for a one of these.
